Knobble Hill news received an urgent call from town doctor Wren Stewart, on Monday the 3rd of March, 2025. Dr Stewart wished to inform the community that one of it’s members had contracted measles. The resident was eight-year old Lee Franklyn.
“Get your kids over to the Franklyn house this Friday. They’re having a measles party.”
“We don’t know how he got it,” said Dr Stewart, “but that really doesn’t matter. Measles is not something you want to get as an adult, so it’s a good time to contract it, when you’re young. I am encouraging the children of the village to come into contact with the Franklyn boy in order to expose themselves to the virus. Once infected their immune system will do the rest and they should be protected in future.”
Measles is generally worse in adults because they have a higher risk of severe complications like pneumonia, encephalitis, and hepatitis. Symptoms tend to be more intense, with higher fevers and prolonged illness, leading to slower recovery. Pregnant women face additional risks, making vaccination the best form of prevention.
“Get your kids over to the Franklyn house the his Friday. They’re having a measles party!” Added Mayor Graham Appleby who contacted the Franklyn’s to suggest the idea of a super-spreader event.
For those worried that their child may already have measles, symptoms include:
- Fever
- Dry cough
- Runny nose
- Sore throat
- Inflamed eyes (conjunctivitis)
- Tiny white spots with bluish-white centers on a red background found inside the mouth on the inner lining of the cheek — also called Koplik’s spots
- A skin rash made up of large, flat blotches that often flow into one another
